De Verscholen Tuin (The Hidden Garden) is a small farm with a big (7000m2) garden that serves as a meditation and training center. Organisations and teachers rent our meditation room and garden for yoga, tai chi, and different kinds of meditation, mostly for weekends and evenings.
The oldest part of the farmhouse is about 300 years old. We have room for three WWOOFers. Every WWOOFer is offered a place of their own to sleep. We love healthy, incredibly tasty food, time for tea, homemade jam, tai chi, meditation, and good company.
The house is 20 minutes by bike and car from the center of Antwerp, a city with a 16th and 17th Century center, a port, lots of museums, fortresses, parks, etc. Bicycles and maps of the area are available. There are also frequent tram and bus connections to the center. The terminal of tram 24 from Antwerp central station and tram 4 from Antwerp Berchem train station is 5 minutes away.
We are also 20 minutes from Antwerp Berchem station and from Antwerp central station, with direct and frequent connections to Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Ghent, and Bruges. It’s usually possible to pick up WWOOFers from Berchem station.
We prefer WWOOFers to stay for at least three weeks. Ten days is our minimum. We accept WWOOFers from April to October.
The sort of work here is mostly gardening: weeding, digging, mowing, watering, clipping, planting, and picking. We cultivate vegetables, fruits, berries, herbs, and nuts. There are a few animals, too: two dogs and some chickens.
There is also some basic construction work; mostly wood, clay, and straw. Then there are: spoiling the dogs and cats, cooking (depending on interest and talent) and help with the bloody PC.
In the summer and early autumn of 2014, we will complete the construction of our outdoor meditation hut, which involves hands-on work with sustainable clay and wood construction.
